Follow the adventures of Minmi, the desperate and dateless dinosaur...
Minmi is one of a kind. For a start, she’s a dinosaur living in a post-dinosaur world and her keeper is Dr Andrew Simpson, the internationally famous dinosaur handler and Director of the Museum Studies Program at Macquarie University.
Minmi was seen participating in the weekend school for MSM 202 (Information Management and Museums Practice) recently.
Apart from hearing about preventative and restorative conservation (pretty essential when you’re 65 million years old), she particularly enjoyed checking out all the interesting objects that students brought in for the object condition report exercise.
She had to be restrained from having a nibble of a historic document from the First World War, but she was very pleased to see that some students had fossils for the exercise as this made her feel quite nostalgic, despite the fact that they predated the Jurassic significantly.
One of the more interesting objects was the modern art piece “Crack Rabbit”, we’re not sure if it was the stuffed toy or what it was holding that attracted her considerable interest.

Minmi particularly enjoyed viewing this piece of modern art.

On the second day the students heard all about PhD student, Ally Halliwell’s work on an archaeological dig in Thailand recovering Neolithic pottery. After this they set about reconstructing some Chinese pottery from the “Eden Gardens” Dynasty.
Minmi particularly enjoyed this, after all, being a herbivore, she likes a little “pot”.
She has promised to have a more savoury, “drug reference free” adventure next instalment!
Minmi enjoyed a little 'pot' at the recent Museum Studies weekend school for MSM202.
