MAS Report from Alison Leeson

Over the last two months MAS has been very active. We have  made four very successful and interesting museum visits. The first two were organised by Jacquie Henrisson.  The  first included a trip to the Olfur Eliasson Exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary art .

The second  trip was to the Australian National Maritime Museum to see the Mythical Creatures. With the help of Clare Power (a Masters student the Macquarie University Museum Studies program) and the Maritime Museum I was able to add to the visit our own personal tour guides and  we were also given  free Big Tickets which allowed us on to all three marine vessels  the replica first fleet ship “The Endeavour” the warship “ Vampire” and the submarine “Oslo”.

Our third trip was organised by Stephanie Chinneck. We went to the Jenolan Caves. Thanks to Stephanie and Jacqueline we were able to get funding from the University for the  bus which meant that  it was free for our members so 21 of us made the  trip to the Caves and truly had a great day  seeing the Lucas, Imperial or Baal cave as well as taking the nature walks around the caves.

For the future we have planned  a trip to see the Archibald Prize winners at the  National Art Gallery. We will also be  having a end of semester dinner at the Inferno Cafe.

We are also working on organising  trips to the Biological and Geological  museums on campus and are also  organising  an Indian Jones Movie Fest that will be happening over the June/July  break.
